Jim and his Mom, family caregiver

I am a typical 50-something Orange County son of an 80 something Mother (not an Orange County Senior). Like many seniors, my Mom needs assistance with everyday tasks. I am one of four “family caregivers” and we all share in the tasks. I don’t want to make it sound like a chore, I love my mother and I enjoy being with her to help her. The point is that with professional help, a professional caregiver, she can get so much more help, spend so much less time alone.

In the nearby picture my Mom and I are standing in front of the National Cathedral in Washington DC. Last weekend my siblings and I got together with my Mom for a  family reunion. Only my brother lives in DC. Our family caregivers travel to visit Mom as we did last weekend.

I encourage you to spend time with you parents while they have time left on this earth. I also encourage you to get professional caregivers to help you so that the time you have with Mom and Dad is the best kind of time, conversation, entertainment, and companionship. Not the chores of bathing, toileting and housekeeping.
